Data Color Spyder 3 no 64 chip back up
Data Color Spyder 3 no 64 bit support
Sep 10, 2019
I just got an e-mail from Data Color saying they will not update the software to 64 bit to ensure compatibility with Mac Bone Catalina.
The device works fine running the current 32 bit compatible system software. I know ya tin't hang on to old tech, even if information technology works sometimes.
Monitor calibration was key to getting great results with my 2017 iMac, Lightroom and Cannon Pro 100.
Anyone with similar concerns or suggestions for a piece of work effectually?

"workaround" for no 64 bit support
Well I keep older Os versions on separate partitions to kick from when I need "one-time" stuff.
Similar for example Aperture which besides volition not run under Catalina.
WRT Spyder 3, its sensor cells do age and at a certain time need replacement anyway.
Cheers,
Ralf

I wonder if they are hoping that you will buy a 2nd, newer, Spyder.
I would non calibrate with that device as it is old and i believe its not prepare for the new rgb leds in new imacs..and then the results may be questionable even if the software works in 64bit

They did offer $50 off at that place electric current gen device. Fair enough.
Ralf, thanks. Uncomplicated. I mirror my startup drive on an external ssd. Guess I will not update it to Catalina!

I've got a Spyder 3 as well and take the same problem as well. I'chiliad currently running a 2012 Mac Mini with a 23" Dell monitor. I'one thousand considering upgrading to an iMac and if I do, maybe I'll just rely on its native calibration. I'm certainly not going to purchase some other Data Color device.
Data Colour pulled the same baloney years ago with the Power PC -> Intel transition. Their software was programmed for the Power PC compages and in one case Apple tree dropped back up for Rosetta, yous could no longer calibrate with anything but the newest device. They've now washed this twice, so y'all can be certain they volition drop support for older hardware yet once more in the time to come (maybe when Apple tree goes ARM?)
Googling around, I plant DisplayCAL, which is an open up source calibration plan that works with a bunch of older devices. Information technology seems to work just as well equally the native Spyder program.

I'm pretty certain there are some strong reasons why OSX ten.15 volition but support 64-bit applications. For starters, the want to take apps somewhat seamlessly supported across both OSX and iOS might have created that technical necessity. There are probably other reasons, too, which an outfit like Ars Technica will likely explore when they publish their review of ten.xv.

Re: Effort DisplayCAL
I recently read that colorimeters degrade over time. I do not how much of this is marketing or if it is something to be concerned with.
